Nokken Maker
Niobesnuppa brings us another fascinating lesson in Swedish and Norwegian folklore with this beautiful and original game! It is always refreshing to see a male dress up game with so much thought and passion behind it! There's original features here like textured or transparent skin, a selection of musical instruments, a selection of weather conditions, and even a wide array of victims for this mythological spirit! The clothes, as always, are intricate and rich in folk flavor. I will publish the story inside the game here so you can see it more clearly: Nøkken/Nykkjen/Näcken is a sinister male freshwater spirit from Norwegian and Swedish folklore, his first mention dating all the way back to the Viking age. He is said to dwell in dark ponds, lakes or rivers. Nøkken is a shape shifter, but is most known to take the shape of a handsome man with long hair (Swedish), a monster of twigs and seaweed with glowing eyes (Norwegian), or a white horse.Nøkken plays a fiddle, or in some stories a harp, and he is said to be the best musician in the world. In many stories Nøkken uses his beautiful violin music to put people in a trance and lure them into the water and drowning them. In other stories Nøkken may play a more active role in pulling them into the depths.Nøkken isn't only bloodthirsty and evil, though, he is also often portrayed as a sad figure who lives in loneliness and laments his fate as a demonic water spirit. Nøkken can also be helpful to you if you give him an offering. It is said that if you leave an offering by his pond, such as a black animal, three drops of blood from your finger, or brandy, he will tune your fiddle so it will play as beautifully as his own and you can become an excellent musician like him.The waterlilies in Nøkken's pond are his garden. Stealing from his garden angers him, and he will pull whoever does this into the depths. That is why waterlilies are sometimes called "nøkkerose" in Norwegian. Nøkken also knows when a tragedy will happen or bad weather will come, and he will warn people by letting out nasty screams and sad moans.
